Tips from the pros
Hot weather
Very hot weather can adversely affect the charging power your vehicle can accept, and the charging speed as well. As we head into summer, here are a few tips to help you keep your car in peak performance during hot spells.
- Get your vehicle ready ahead of long trips: if it’s hot outside, cool your car down.
- Keep the air conditioning on low and cool passengers down by opening windows to improve your range.
- If your battery’s thermal management system isn’t very efficient, summer heat can slow down your charge, as can successive fast-charges in short periods of time. Avoid unnecessary charging when its hot outside. Instead, charge the battery slowly at night once it gets cooler outside.
