The Electric Circuit's role in the public charging networks

We're here to stay!

Following the publication of an article raising a number of questions, we would like to reiterate our role and commitment with respect to the roll out and operation of the public charging network. The network currently comprises more than 5,500 Level-2 charging stations, as well as 1,000 fast-charge stations. We remain committed to reaching the target objective of 2,530 fast-charge stations by the end of 2030. In 2030, we will reevaluate the situation, taking into account the evolution of the charging offer at that time.

Under no circumstances will Hydro-Québec withdraw from public charging or sell its fast-charge stations. We would also like to remind readers that fast-charge stations, whether part of a public or private network, are solicited only a few times a year by the average EV driver. The majority of charging is done at home, where the residential electricity rate applies.

Charging rates

It is important to mention that the Electric Circuit’s fast-charge station rates are regulated by law. Rate indexation takes place only once a year and cannot exceed the inflation rate, for a maximum increase of 3%. It should be noted that, regardless of who is offering the fast-charge service, the sale of electricity will always benefit Quebecers, contrary to the sale of gasoline.
