Charging Stations and Rates

How to use a charging station and its rates

All plug-in electric vehicle models available in North America are equipped with a socket that is compatible with 240-volt charging stations. Only all-electric vehicles with a CHAdeMO or Combo socket can be charged at 400-volt fast-charge stations. The Charging options table summarizes the types of charging available for each model of EV sold in Canada.

Standard charging station (240 volts)

The rate for 240-volt charging is either at a flat fee of $2,50, regardless of the lengh of charge or at an hourly rate of $1, billed by the minute and based on the amount of time the vehicle is plugged in.  To see which rate applies at each charging station, you can consult the Electric Circuit mobile app or the Web site in the section Find a station.

Curbside charging in Montréal costs $1 per hour, billed by the minute excluding parking fees. For example, if a vehicle is connected to a station for three hours, charging will cost $3.00, even if the vehicle was completely charged after one hour.

The rate for 240-volt charging stations in Ontario varies from site to site. To see which rate applies at each charging station, you can consult the Electric Circuit mobile app or the Web site in the section Find a station.

To have access to a charging station in a parking facility that charges fees, parking fees must be paid as they are not included in the charging cost.

WARNING: A $2 fee will be charged to your Electric Circuit account for all requests to activate a charging station through the CAA-Québec help line. This will be in addition to the cost of your charge. To avoid this fee, we’d like to remind you that the mobile app or your Electric Circuit card are always available when you need them.

Instructions:

Hold your Electric Circuit card in front of the scanner. Instructions will be displayed on the screen. Once the authentication is complete, the door will unlock.
Lift the door and unplug the connector from the charging station.
Plug the connector into your vehicle's outlet.

When charging is finished, unplug the connector from your vehicle.

Roll the cable around the support, put the connector back into the station and close the door to complete the transaction.

Fast-charge station (400 volts)

Fast-charging is offered at $10 per hour and is billed by the minute. The bill is calculated based on the total time connected to the station, not the duration of the charge or the total energy transfer.

IMPORTANT: Do not press the yellow button while plugging the connector

Hold your charging card in front of the scanner or use the mobile app.

The station initiates security tests before allowing charging to start.

Once the green START button flashes, press on that button.

ATTENTION:

- Only one vehicle at a time can use the fast-charge station even if it has two types of connectors.

- While your vehicle is charging, please remain near it. Once your vehicle is charged, please be considerate and make sure that the station is available to other electric vehicle owners.

- EV have a limit for the quick charge which is fixed by the manufacturer. When the charge level of the battery reaches 80%-83% on some models, charging may stop after receiving the car's control; rest assured, there's no problem whatsoever with the charging station or with the vehicle. If this happens, it is recommended to continue charging at a 240 volts charging station order to minimize costs as between 80 and 100%, the EV accepts much more slowly the amount of energy delivered by the charging station.
